Thiazolidinediones/glitazone and other oral antidiabetic combinations are medicines combining thiazolidinediones (also known as glitazones) and another active ingredient that lower insulin resistance and control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Glitazones help the body produce new fat cells which are more sensitive to insulin, lowering blood glucose levels and improving the body's use of insulin and glucose. They are often combined with other medication, such as biguanides or sulfonylurea medicines. Commonly prescribed thiazolidinediones/glitazone and other oral antidiabetic combinations include Avandamet (rosiglitazone, metformin hydrochloride) and Avandaryl (rosiglitazone, glimepiride).
