Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are a class of antidepressant used to improve mood and treat anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). SSRIs work by increasing the production of serotonin in the brain. Commonly prescribed SSRIs include Zoloft (sertraline) and Prozac (fluoxetine).
